Better Cotton CoC Verification and Independent Assessment
Better Cotton is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton with a mission to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
GCL International Ltd is an approved Third-party Verifier (3PV) for Better Cotton CoC and Cotton Consumption Independent Assessment.
Better Cotton Chain of Custody Verification
From the farmers who grow Better Cotton to the companies that source it, the Better Cotton Chain of Custody (CoC) is the documentation and evidence of Better Cotton as it moves through the supply chain, connecting Better Cotton supply with demand.
The Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard v1.0 was published at the beginning of May 2023 and is effective from October 2023. All organisations participating in the Better Cotton programme will need to adhere to the new Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard by May 2025, irrespective of whether they are applying Mass Balance or physical traceability CoC models. Organisations that fail to make this transition by said date may face disqualification from the programme.
Measuring Cotton Consumption: Independent Assessment
Retailer and Brand Members (RB Members) are required to calculate their total cotton fibre consumption annually and submit relevant supporting documentation in accordance with the requirements set out in Measuring cotton consumption: Requirements and guidance.
From January 2024 onwards, RB Members are also required to commission an Independent Assessment of their cotton fibre consumption measurement. This is to ensure consistency and reliability of their results. RB Members must carry out an Independent Assessment if they wish to have access to certain claims (Advanced Claims and the On-Product Mark).
